The Yaak has gone 50 years without a single acre of designated wilderness, the story might begin. Or, a slightly different beginning: The Yaak is the wildest, most diverse valley in the West, home to grizzlies, wolverine, owls, eagles, ferns, otters. There are more stories about this place than there is time to tell them. It is a wellspring.The rich biodiversity and forests of the wild Yaak need your support. Please take a moment to become a member of the Yaak Valley Forest Council. Together, YVFC members, staff, board, and supporters work to conduct habitat restoration, scientific research, and preserve the Yaak River watershed. The Yaak Valley Forest Council partnered with the Vital Ground Foundation and Friends of Alvord Lake to establish the Alvord Lake Community Forest. Known historically as Cowes Lake, this water and its shoreline maintain exceptional habitat for common loons, great blue herons, osprey, bald eagles, spotted frogs, western toads, and painted turtles.
